2004 Aspirations

Aspirations 2004 - January Update

- Lose 55 pounds ... I've been stalled. Same weight. Same... everything. So, I started an intense excercise regimen and finally started to see changes in my body again. Yup. Doing Pilates. Last week a lost 1.5 inches in my waist.... and 1 lb. Yee haw... 1 lb down - 54 to go.

- Read the Bible through ... Falling majorly behind.

- Read two books per month ... I actually read THREE books last month. Heh. They were mostly fictional fluff, and technically the two Lemony Snicket books count as one, because they're so short. Anyway, I read The Reptile Room (Snicket), The Wide Window (Snicket), and Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (Tolkien). LOTR: FOTR is a brilliant piece of work. In the words of CS Lewis, "Here are beauties which pierce like swords or burn like cold iron."

- Complete one sewing project per month ... Funny thing, I remembered I was supposed to do this - um - yesterday. So? I made a pair of pajama bottoms:

cgsleeppants

Nifty, eh?
(Yes, they're Curious George.)

- Begin exercise regimen ... Pilates, y'all. It's all about Pilates. I cannot believe the changes I'm already seeing in my body. My stomach is flatter, my legs and arms feel more toned, and my posture is so much better. Love it, love it, love it.

- Pay off credit cards ... Nothing done in this area, really.

- Save enough money to buy a new camera ... Haven't saved a dime.

- Create photo portfolio ... Oh, yeah. I forgot about this. See, that's the good thing about doing these updates - it brings to mind what you've forgotten that you aspired to in the first place. Updates are handy.

- Write [something] and get published ... Still cookin'.

- Go through Waking the Dead study w/Bek ... Haven't brought this up yet - too much going on. Next month I plan delve in to more "meaty" books - i.e. Waking the Dead.

- Do Bekah and Jonathon's photo shoot ... Oi. It's too cold!

- Create greeting card assortment ... Just got my idears to keep me warm.

- Redecorate room ... Funny - I forgot about this one, too! My room is the exact same as it was on this day last month.

- Create/Maintain monthly budget ... This. Must. Be. Done.

- Save $100 every month ... Ha. Ha. Ha. Cruel joke wilst thinks I have that kind of change to spare. What was I thinking?

- Get braces ... Flex account is here. Braces are not. Me scared.

- Get new glasses ... No appointment made. Snap to!

- Create book blog ... Done!

- Write mini-book review of each book completed ... I haven't been keeping up with this.

- Make bed every day ... I'm so inconsistent with this. Stupid bed. Where are the freakin' blue birds when you need 'em?

- Create a graphic set ... Still struggling through this. My Mudder is wanting a new look for her site.... I wish I had the confidence in me that SHE has in me.

- Knit a pair of socks ... IPicked them up again! One is freakishly larger than the other, and I'm desperately trying to not contract a severe case of SSS. (Second Sock Syndrome: Meaning, having finished the first sock, you never want to go back and finish the second sock.)

- Update my aspirations on a monthly basis ... Ta-da.

Aspirations - 2004

Better late than never, I reckon! It's been a super crazy week, but I still managed to get my aspirations for 2004 up and runnin'. Yee haw.

- Lose 55 pounds ... I've lost 46 lbs in about 8 months, so I'm thinking that to lose another 55 in twelve shouldn't be that big of a feat. But anymore sneaking chocolate covered peanuts at work, and I'm doomed!!!

- Read the Bible through ... I've never done that before, so while pondering what books I was going to read this year - my heart was pricked when I realized there are probably portions and passages and, well, MEAT in there that I have yet to unearth. So, with my trusty "365 Day Bible" (NIV of course) in hand - I shall read it through.

- Read two books per month ... I figured it was very lofty - too lofty - for me to set a goal of reading one book per week. Especially considering I can count on one hand the number of books I completed in 2003. I need to pace myself, and not set myself up for colossal failure - as would be fairly typical for moi. *bats eyelashes* So, I figure two books per month is a good goal - and if I happen to read MORE than that? Cool.

- Complete one sewing project per month ... This is something I really want to do. I have a new sewing machine, a nifty sewing box, all the necessary notions, we've got patterns coming out our ears, and I have a live-in sewing instructor for Pete's sake! There's just no reason for me NOT to get crackin' and become the seamstress that I've always wanted to be.

- Begin exercise regimen ... Once again - trying to be realistic here! I didn't exercise hardly at all last year, so I'm setting my goal low - and non-specific. I would like to try different things to tone and shape my body as I continue to lose weight, so as to avoid that whole droopy skin thang. *shudders* I'm thinking Pilates? Or maybe ... *gulp* ... Tae-Bo?

- Pay off credit cards ... I've not got THAT much on credit cards - there's no reason for me to be stuck in a minimum payment rut for a $500 balance. GET THOSE BAD BOYS PAID OFF!

- Save enough money to buy a new camera ... Larry Burkett always said the first step to getting out of debt is to stop getting IN to debt! So, I will save the money I need to buy what I want - with cash.

- Create photo portfolio ... I've got the portfolio album. I've got the pictures. Now? I just need to put them in the album. Shouldn't be too hard.... you'd think.

- Write [something] and get published ... Always a dream of mine. That whole freelance writing thing. Hmmmm.... well, if anything I'll just finally get things sent off. Now, whether I get published or get that infamous "We're sorry to inform you..." letter is another story.

- Go through "Waking the Dead" study w/Bek ... Bekah and I are both really in to this book by John Eldridge (same author of "Wild at Heart") called Waking the Dead. It comes with a study guide, so I think we should study it together more in depth. *nods* Yup. I think that'd be a good thing.

- Do Bekah and Jonathon's photo shoot ... For their first wedding anniversary I offered my services to do some photos of them as a gift! (First anniversary being the "Paper" gift and all, I thought that was very clever of me.) But I haven't followed through as of yet. The real goal is not to get this done by the end of the year, but to get this done before their SECOND anniversary.

- Create greeting card assortment ... I may just sell these on eBay or something, but I have some GREAT ideas for greeting cards using some of my photos, and clever verses. So - keep a look out.

- Redecorate room ... Somethin's gotta give in this room of mine. My favorite phrase has always been - It looks like antique furniture threw up all over my room. Big bulky pieces scattered here and yon, barely leaving walking room, and looking very cluttered and ... small. So, the goal is to purge, or rent a storage shed, and redecorate the whole space. Create a sanctuary that I'll actually look forward to spending time in! Imagine.

- Create/Maintain monthly budget ... This. Must. Be. Done.

- Save $100 every month ... That's like $50 a pay check. I need to start setting money aside, and stop blowing it on over-priced latte's at Barnes & Noble.

- Get braces ... I set up a "flex" account w/my employer that will draft a certain amount of money out of my paycheck every pay period (pre-tax) to help pay for non-covered medical expenses - i.e. braces. I have a terrible overbite and have always been really self-conscious about my teeth. Time to get them bad boys fixed!

- Get new glasses ... I'm paying for vision insurance, but I haven't made the effort to see my optometrist to get a new prescription for my glasses. These lenses are better than none at all, but they're scratched and messed up and don't work so well - my eyes are continually getting worse, and there's NO excuse for not going in for an eye appointment. I'm just too damn lazy, and I'm sick of myself sitting around - putting things off 'til tomorrow. 'Nuff said.

- Create book blog ... Yup, I want a place where I can keep track of all the books I'll be reading this year....

- Write mini-book review of each book completed ... In said book blog, of course.

- Make bed every day ... This has always been a goal of mine - maybe 2004 will the year I actually muster up some discipline to be consistent with this! You would think it wouldn't be so dern difficult. You'd think.

- Create a graphic set ... Becky has inspired me! I think this is something I'd really like to do this year.

- Knit a pair of socks ... I have a pair that I started and never finished - and this year? I'd like to get 'em done.

- Update my aspirations on a monthly basis ... Last year? I didn't update at ALL! But this year, I really want to make these things happen ... so, if I go back every month to update on my progress, I'll keep these goals in the forefront - and hopefully they will not be so sorely neglected as they were in 2003. Poor wittle aspirwations.

So, those are pretty reasonable - wouldn't you say? I haven't broken them down in to categories (note yon reference to being too damn lazy), but it'll serve its purpose nonetheless. I'm excited about my prospects for 2004 ... I have a feeling that it's going to be a good year. Cheers!
